Top + Hot Fresh ways to discover great posts
27 milestones Features, improvements, and fixes covered
Privacy intact Every existing visibility rule still applies

Great posts no longer disappear just because something newer arrived.

Until now, every PeepSo stream was chronological. PeepSo 9.0.5.0 adds three sorting families that help members choose the experience they want.

Recent

The familiar chronological stream, with Posts or Posts & comments.

ClassicNewest first

Top

The posts earning the most engagement inside the period you choose.

TodayWeekMonthYearAll time

Hot

Conversations gaining momentum now, with fresher engagement weighted more strongly.

TodayWeekMonthYear

PeepSo scores comments and replies, reactions and likes, and reposts. Views do not affect the score. Engagement on a comment rolls up to its original post, and activity counts when it happens—not only when the post was published.

A two-year-old post can return to Top: This week when it sparks a fresh wave of conversation.

Ranking never changes who can see a post. Privacy, blocking, group membership, page access, and every existing visibility rule still apply.

Your ranking, your rules

Under Configuration → Navigation & Filters → Content ranking, admins can tune how comments, reactions, and reposts influence Top and Hot. Top is reaction-led by default, while Hot gives more weight to active conversation.

Recalculating posts76%

After updating, PeepSo scores existing content in the background. Top and Hot appear automatically once enough posts are ready, so useful results are waiting from the moment members see the new choices.

The same engine now powers Popular Posts in Groups and Pages and Community Pulse → Trending, using engagement from the last 30 days. Popular Posts are also cached per viewer, closing a privacy gap that could reuse one member’s visibility-filtered results for someone else.

Stream controls now feel instant—and stay where you put them.

The new rankings arrive with a cleaner, calmer stream experience across the main feed, profiles, groups, and pages.

  • Apply on tap. Filter and sort choices take effect immediately. There is no extra Apply button.
  • Your posts stay visible. “Show my posts” lives in the Filter menu, with a clear notice when your own posts are hidden.
  • Preferences stay local. Remembered choices belong to that browser, so desktop no longer silently changes another device.
  • Every stream remembers. Preferences persist on profile, group, and page streams too.
  • Recent is clearer. “Show oldest first” now sits beside Default stream order and affects Recent only.
  • One-time reset. Because preferences moved from the account to the browser, saved choices reset once after updating.

Start new members with a face, not a placeholder.

First impressions matter. The new Avatars during registration beta lets members add a profile photo before they finish signing up.

Avatars during registration

Choose No, Yes – optional, or Yes – required under Configuration → Accounts & Security. Members get a live preview and can upload, crop, and rotate JPEG, PNG, and WebP images, with minimum-resolution checks built in.

NoOptionalRequired

In required mode, the Register button stays disabled until an avatar is ready, and the server enforces the requirement too. Abandoned uploads are cleared after about two hours. A successful registration does not create an unnecessary “changed their avatar” stream post.

Sites using WordPress-native avatars remain unaffected. PeepSo keeps the feature off and points admins to the relevant setting.

More precision for admins. Less collateral damage for members.

PeepSo 9.0.5.0 gives admins tighter control without turning moderation into a full-time job.

Aggressive filtering

Matches a term anywhere, including inside a longer word. Best for phrases that are never innocent.

glass · passmatched

Casual filtering

Matches whole words only, so filtering “ass” no longer changes “glass” or “pass.”

glass · passsafe

Matching is now case-insensitive, accepts commas or new lines, and uses one clear rendering control for bullets, asterisks, or hashes. Filtering also reaches text on post backgrounds, shows the original text while editing, and reapplies immediately after the edit.

Automatic bans for repeatedly reported profiles

Set a report threshold and PeepSo can ban a repeatedly reported profile automatically. Choose a temporary duration in days, or enter 0 for a permanent ban. A threshold of 0 disables the feature, and administrators are never auto-banned.

  • Visible report progress. The Submit button now shows activity and ignores repeat clicks while a report is sent.
  • Cleaner report emails. Empty additional-recipient fields no longer create broken mail-queue entries, and profile reports respect the Email alerts switch.
  • A sensible block limit. Members can block up to 50 users by default, protecting stream performance from extremely large block lists.
  • Admin-managed notifications. Email notification intensity can be locked to the site-wide default without losing each member’s saved preference.
  • No duplicate group notices. An inviter who is also an owner or manager receives one clear notification when an invitation is accepted.

Find any PeepSo setting without the scavenger hunt.

Press Command K on Mac or Control K on Windows, type what you need, and jump directly to the right PeepSo setting.

K

Hundreds of settings. One search.

Word order, synonyms, section names, Manage screens, and Queue screens are all understood.

Search works even when words are out of order: “post stream” can find “Post new purchases to stream.” It also understands synonyms such as “turn off” for Disable options.

Choose a result and PeepSo opens the correct tab and highlights the field. If that field is hidden behind a disabled parent option, PeepSo takes you to the parent and explains what to enable.

The index is built in the background, cached, and filtered in your browser. The Command Palette works throughout WordPress admin on WordPress 6.9 and newer; on WordPress 6.3–6.8, it is available on editor screens.

Small fixes that make PeepSo feel much better.

These are the improvements that quietly remove friction from every visit.

<

Your post stays intact

A stray < no longer eats the rest of a post. Hearts like <3 and comparisons like a < b publish safely.

URL

Removed previews stay gone

Editing a post or comment no longer brings back a link preview you removed.

GIF

GIF removal sticks

Removing a GIF while editing a comment now actually removes it.

Better emoji editing

Emoji insert at the cursor on backgrounds, appear while editing posts, and no longer trigger a picker crash.

AV

Titles are optional

Video and audio uploads no longer wait for a title before members can post.

UI

Album controls are clear

Tooltips on album view toggles are no longer clipped.

A smoother update from the stream to the server room.

PeepSo 9.0.5.0 also tackles the issues that matter most when a community is busy.

Video Stories on Safari and iOS

Story video now uses a streaming path that avoids incompatible compression, supports seeking, protects unpublished previews, and works with offloaded media.

Advanced Ads 2.x

Loading more stream posts no longer triggers a fatal error with newer placement objects.

Fewer database deadlocks

Profile completeness is written only when its value changes, removing needless database updates on every page and AJAX request.

Stronger PHP 8 handling

More than 50 risky string operations were hardened against unexpected values that could otherwise trigger fatal errors.

Theme updates, once

Gecko and the Block Theme now detect the version actually installed after an update, so the same update is not offered twice.

Chat updates inline

The Plugins screen updater once again receives the package it needs during AJAX requests.

A lighter Foundation download

Country flags and default post backgrounds moved out of the package. Remaining images were compressed, backgrounds cache locally after their first request, and no language files were removed.
