New Release: PeepSo & Gecko 4.2.2.0

Multiple security, UI/UX and logic improvements across the board. And today is the 22nd of February 2022. 22.02.2022, which happens to also be a palindrome, we like our palindromes.

VIP icons reordering

We improved how VIP icons work by making sure the admin-defined order always applies in the front-end. Before, the cache would keep the old order until user icon collection was modified.

Email blocklist & Social Login

The PeepSo email domain blocklist now also applies to Social Login. Without this fix, users with emails in banned domains were able to register using Facebook, Twitter etc. effectively circumventing the block.

UI & UX improvements

The mobile UI for stream filters has been improved. We made sure that deleting a comment also visually removes all sub-comments without reloading the page. Gecko compatibility with third party plugins (WooCommerce and others) has been improved.

Security & logic fixes

We patched a minor security issue with recently introduced “admin only fields” where profile owner (non-admin) could edit the “admin only” fields if they figured out a way to modify the API calls.

Another recently introduced feature – admin controlled default for email intensity settings – had a bug in fresh install where the default admin setting would not reflect the user experience in the frontend.

Gecko theme version lock logic was improved, to make sure that child themes that do not follow the versioning scheme by adding an additional number (for example changing 4.2.2.0 to 4.2.2.0.1) still are properly recognized as compatible (or not) based on the first three sections.
