Anonymous Posts and more

We are thrilled to announce the release of PeepSo version 7.0.2.0, packed with exciting new features, improvements, and fixes. Whether you’re building a thriving online community or fine-tuning your PeepSo-powered site, this update delivers tools to enhance user engagement, streamline functionality, and provide a smoother experience for everyone.

New Features

Anonymous Posts

Protect your users’ privacy and encourage candid conversations with the introduction of Anonymous Posts. This feature allows users to share thoughts or questions without revealing their identity, fostering open and honest engagement within your community.

This feature is disabled by default, you can enable it by going to backend of your site: PeepSo > Configuration > Stream Posts. It’s just above config for Hashtags.

Here’s how it works:

  1. You enable the feature in the backend.
  2. Done.

Users will be able to select: Anonymous post from the ‘post to’ menu. Look below, you can see in the menu the user’s avatar but once you switch to Anonymous post, the avatar in postbox goes to a default one.

Once the post is published it looks like this:

Notice the blue label that tells admins and only admins who wrote that post. It won’t show for regular users. Anonymous User will be added to your user list. There won’t be an email or password. It will be impossible to login from outside to that account. However, as admin you can view that profile within your community and you can change that avatar to something else. Something unique that will catch your community’s eye and immediately they’ll know it’s an anonymous post.

Why can Admins see who posted anonymous posts? Well, we don’t live in a perfect world. Unfortunately. In the worst case scenario for legal reasons. You need to make sure that your users know that you as community administrators can see who posted what. With that little cautionary note aside. Let’s continue.

The feature is marked as beta, but it works perfectly fine. We are also planning further improvements and additions in features to this in the upcoming 7.0.3.0 release in a couple of weeks. We’ll remove the beta indication in the next release too. Details will be discussed at the time of the release, though.

Anonymous Posts are a feature that was actually sponsored by one of our community members. If he’d like to, we can reveal the identity and the community behind this particular feature so they can take the well-deserved credit.
