PeepSo 2.2.5 delivers the long anticipated “Post Straight To Group” feature along with some user experience improvements around the postbox and groups related guest views.
Postbox – new UI & UX, post straight to group
The Post Straight To Group feature is now out of closed beta and available for everyone. The main Community postbox now features a little Groups icon which allows users to quickly post into a group they belong to without navigating to the group page. The icon opens a simple search pop-up to narrow down the list. There are some technical limitations to this feature: posts cannot be scheduled in groups, and photos need to be uploaded after selecting a group.
After introducing the aforementioned feature (and Scheduled Posts earlier this year), we added quite a few icons to the postbox bottom bar. To simplify the experience, we streamlined the somewhat confusing design where a group of bigger buttons would break up into a bigger list of smaller ones – the small postbox icons are now the default and only state of the postbox option bar, which works great with status indicators and label overlays introduced in the previous releases.
Groups vs Guests
We have improved the behavior and design of groups and group posts when viewed by guests (users who are not logged in). The old design and user experience were not exactly ideal – overloaded with either login forms or irrelevant “no access” messages – so we have redesigned the interface and flow in this particular scenario. That being said – secret groups are still, well, secret.
Other changes
Markdown shipped with the free PeepSo Foundation now supports the table syntax. We fixed some RTL issues in the admin panel and improved performance of the maintenance scripts responsible for group members – group followers consistency checks. See the full changelog here.
