PHP 8.3 has been released on November 23rd and despite it being a version bump from 8.2, it is still considered as a minor release within PHP 8 family. We received several reports from users who already updated their servers to PHP 8.3.0 noticing some server warnings, and this version fixes them. We also included a patch for potential XSS vulnerability in the installer page. Although the possibility for anyone to exploit this issue is minimal, because they would need access to PeepSo add-on installer page, we still recommend immediate update.
Do I Have to Update My Server To PHP 8.3.0?
Of course not.
Minor versions of PHP usually only include “bleeding edge” features of modern web technology, and normally you’ll see no obvious benefits by immediately switching to the newest version. Developers of your favorite plugin need some time to adapt their code and actually start using those newest technologies – us here at PeepSo included in that bunch.
PeepSo will still work perfectly fine on all versions of PHP, outlined in our Hosting & Server requirements documentation.
Installer Vulnerability
We fixed the potential Cross Site Scripting vulnerability at the installer page where malicious users could obtain a little more control than what it is actually needed. Although we strongly suggest to update your sites immediately, the risk of this issue is very minimal.
What Else Is New?
We fixed the compatibility with WooCommerce as well, and fixed the LinkedIn login problem with social login.
As always, for the full list of changes, take a look at our changelog.
