Introducing Events and Mobile App (Beta) through integrations with our third party partners.
Events
The WP Event Manager integration plugin is now out of Beta. We have added a new filter option in profiles: all my events, which includes all events created and RSVPd by the user. There’s also a new group of settings controlling how to sort the events in profiles and whether to hide certain filters (or even all of them).
Features related to managing Vendors and Venues might still have some kinks to iron out, so for now we have marked these as Beta still. Same goes for post to stream when RSVP “yes” feature – it might not behave as intended if the parent event is deleted.
New widget positions
Gecko Theme 3.8.0.0 introduces two new widget positions: above content and below content. They are rendered in the main content container, between the sidebars, so any widgets located there will display nicely in line with the main content, and won’t be hidden on mobile.
Mobile App (closed Beta)
PeepSo Integrations: Mobile App is a new upcoming plugin which allows a smooth integration with third party app wrappers. A wrapper is a solution which uses a web view to create an app. The currently supported solutions are MobiLoud and WPMobile.app.
Plugin features
The primary role of the plugin is to hide/disable certain features in mobile app context for various reasons, usually to improve the layout, save space, speed things up and even improve App Store compliance. It works by detecting being in app context and using built-in hooks to control the interface.
Gecko related features
The same plugin allows you to control some Gecko features in app context. For example, we can disable all non-essential widget positions, to ensure the app loads much faster. Gecko theme also includes some extra app context specific widget positions: top and bottom (rendered above and under the content respectively) and sticky top which can be used to render a widget permanently “stuck to the top of the screen” (works great with PeepSo User Bar).
Performance
Experimental Fast Friends Queries available in Early Access have been completely rewritten. We are confident the new solution will provide the same amazing speed improvements as the previous one, but without the added cost of randomly skipping posts.
Other improvements
The Post Backgrounds feature is still in Beta due to some unforeseen issues with Android keyboards, but it is moving forward. In this release we added the ability to edit these posts.
The allow messages only from friends setting now works fine for the “new message” button as well.
Our work on TranslatePress compatibility continues – in this release we fixed some issues related to PeepSo PMP flow with TranslatePress enabled, and we are still working on the new notification engine behind the scenes.
