New WordPress and PHP versions? Not a problem. We got you covered waaay ahead of time. Search in Profiles and Groups plus a bunch of more new features, improvements and fixes. Gecko Theme comes with new features as well. Need sticky widgets? We got you. Need more? Oh, we definitely got more.
WordPress 5.3 and PHP 7.4
WordPress 5.3 and PHP 7.4 are expected next month and PeepSo is already compatible with them. As always, our team has been developing and testing everything on the bleeding edge beta releases to ensure PeepSo compatibility long before the release.
What’s New in PeepSo?
Search in Profiles & Groups
We implemented the community stream search engine in the stream views of profiles and groups. It allows for keyword and hashtag search and allows showing/hiding one’s own posts (especially useful when browsing groups).
Post and comment edit tracking
Furthering the idea of increased accountability of users, moderators and admins, starting with 2.5.4 PeepSo will store edit history of posts and comments in a separate database table. In this version we added a simple icon indicating that a post / comment was edited, with a timestamp. The feature can be enabled / disabled by the admin.
An upcoming feature will provide users with a full edit log – allowing them to see exactly who, when and how edited a given piece of content. If not disabled by the admin, it will provide a detailed change log of all text in the comments and posts.
Single column view in groups
Based on extremely popular demand, we added a backend config allowing the admin to switch the group listing to a single-column view.
Notifications
There were some notifications and notification preferences missing and we made sure to have them added in this version. There are two new user preferences to control “comment reply” and “video converted” e-mails. An on-site “video converted” notification was added.
What’s New in Gecko Theme?
Sticky sidebars, sticky widget positions where they stay in place locked in position while you scroll the main content. With this you’ll never get them ‘out of sight’ and can strategically place widgets that should always be easy to reach. Please do note that we release this feature in Beta, meaning it might not be perfect yet. Should you find any issues with it, just let us know and we’ll definitely get them fixed in the next version. You can find the settings for it in the backend > Gecko Options > General section.
We also added few more Customizer options for your convenience. As themes are all about presentation and functionality, that’s always our priority. From this version feel free to setup your own colors for PeepSo Background & text color of message bubbles in chat. Find it in backend > Gecko > Customize > PeepSo options.
Another new setting added is the ability to change Header: Color of header search input text. Find it in backend > Gecko > Customize > Header section.
On top of all that we also added full support for Yoast breadcrumbs. We improved the position of pinned posts label on iOS devices (mobile view), we unified the colors of Chat and Messages views message bubbles. Gutenberg code blocks got their styling improved as well as WooCommerce product pages.
Those are just a couple of things that we can mention in this release blog post. See our changelog so you can see everything else added in this release.
