PeepSo 1.5.5 is now available and ready for download.
This is a great release. We know Christmas is a long way off but we’ve got a giant sackload of gifts for you in this version of PeepSo.
Third Party Plugins
PeepSo is starting to get some third party plugins. It’s a trickle at the moment but we’re expecting that trickle to develop into a river soon. To head off any confusion, we’ve made some changes to the list of your plugins. It’s a small change but it does make all of the official plugins stand out, and makes navigation easier.
Dashboard Reorganization
First, we reorganized the dashboard to make it more usable for admins. We’ve hidden the list of plugins for admins who already have them installed and activated, and for communities that verify members before adding them to the community, we’ve added a list of users pending approval. The dashboard also now has a list of reported items so that admins can deal with them quickly.
Mailqueue
Some websites have experienced issues with WordPress cron not executing in a timely manner either due to low traffic or a misconfiguration. So we’ve decided to create an endpoint for PeepSo mailqueue. It can now be executed on the server like a regular cronjob and you can be sure that emails will always go out without getting stuck in the mailqueue.
Gravatar support
Oh yes. As of version 1.5.5 PeepSo supports Gravatar avatars. You can allow your users to use gravatar or not. It’s all up to you. And for them it’s just one click away. I mean, really. One button.
That all sounds great, doesn’t it? Here’s the big one…
PeepSo and WSL integration
WordPress Social Login in PeepSo.
WSL stands for WordPress Social Login. Starting from PeepSo 1.5.5 your users will be able to register and log in to your site using a range of different platforms, including:
- Google+
- Yahoo
- WindowsLive
- Steam
- And more
All you need to do is install and enable WSL.
We’ve also improved or fixed a bunch of other issues in this release. If users have not registered their names, the profile will now show their usernames, and we’ve cleaned up the wording in a few places to make the settings clearer to admins.
What’s Coming Up?
We’re getting closer to finishing Customizable Profile Fields. We are also looking for beta testers who would be interested in getting to know CPF, working with them and reporting any issues back. If you’re interested send me a message here. I’ll post a separate blogpost announcing the progress of the CPF later this week.
Upgrade PeepSo Now
Automatic updates let you move quickly to the latest version—and you can do it all in the backend of your site.
Remember to update plugins in this sequence: ChatSo first, then all the child plugins. Core PeepSo plugin should be updated last. Here’s documentation that explains how to upgrade. You can see the full changelog here.
No PeepSo?
The free PeepSo Core version is fantastic. But if you want to unlock the true potential of social networking for WordPress, install the other plugins today.
